Sergei Churilov: ‘It’s An Honour To Compete For The Title’

Challenging for the WFC welterweight crown this weekend will be Sergei Churilov, a 10-0 Ukrainian who hasn’t yet come close to being troubled in his mixed martial arts career. The under-77kg battler knows he’s in for a tough night’s work, but is brim-full of desire going into Sunday’s event.

“The WFC belt is very important as the WFC is a well-known organisation in Europe,” stated the 27-year-old. “It’s an honour to compete for the title. The fight will be difficult since it’s for the championship, which means in short, there are no weak opponents.”

To raise the gold, Churilov will have to get past current kingpin, Ivica ‘Terror’ Truscek (19-12), who is determined and vastly experienced against tough opposition. Sergei hasn’t looked too much into what will face him at the Hala Tivoli, but is confident he’ll find a chink in the champion’s armour. He said,

“I don’t know much about my opponent. I’ve only watched some videos from his fights. He is high level, and I’ll struggle to show my best quality. Ivica is more experienced than me in MMA, but I’m not worried. Every opponent has a weak side, and I will try to exploit that during the fight.”

With crunch time quickly approaching, Sergei was keen to reiterate his pleasure to be returning to a World Freefight Challenge bill, and implored people to watch the upcoming event.

“I feel happy to go back and fight for the WFC,” beamed Churilov. “During the fight, I’ll do my best to win. Come to WFC 17 on October 21st. This will be a good fight and the fans will enjoy it.”
