Savov: ''I would accept a rematch with Bratovz!''

Svetlozar Savov is most definitely one of the elite fighters on WFC roster. Current WFC Middleweight Champion holds a clean 4-0 record inside the ring, with three of those victories due to submission of his opponents. He truly is a man to beat and it will be interesting to see how 2013 plays out for him.

Svetlozar debuted at WFC 13 back in 2011 when he submitted Tesanovic with a guillotine choke.  His next two victims were Di Gallo and Bratovz. It seemed that Savov is truly undestroyable but at WFC 17 he faced his toughest opponent to date. Bojan Velickovic proved to be a though and resilient fighter. Savov had to give his best against “Veli” who held a 6-0 record prior to that fight. He surely was tested at the last event but Svetlozar won the fight after the unanimous decision from the judges.

“Endurance was crucial for the match with Velickovic. He is a very strong opponent and definitely was not easy for me.” He thinks that the preparations and training in the US helped him succeeding.

Svetlozar is back in Bulgaria right now and training. In mid-February he’ll travel back to the States and he will continue his training there. “I train every day and rest only one day a week. Almost every day I train two times a day, only if I’m tired – once a day,” Savov told us.

Boxing, kickboxing, wrestling and grappling practitioner feels like a fish to water in the middleweight class. He has no intention of changing the divisions and on top of that :  “The title in this category is adequate and pleases me,” stated 24-year-old from Bulgaria.

Savov at WFC 17

Slovenian audience loves Savov but there is also a bigger fan favorite in this weight class. Bor Bratovz once already fought with Savov and lost but his last victory against Di Gallo at WFC 17 has maybe put him in the challenger’s front seat. When being asked if he would give Bratovz another shoot at the title, Savov responded: “Of course I would accept a rematch with Bratovz. He is a good and tough fighter and has the right to claim for the title.”

“It is not that important to me how will I win - whether with KO or submission, the most important thing is to win the fight. It’s essential to have a good game because the audience should be pleased.”

Savov is focused only on winning and that is one of the ingredients that a Champion must possess.

Savov had a final say in this interview: “I want to thank all my fans for the support and I hope to keep you happy and to do more good matches so you can enjoy them!”
