You have 1 minute!
1 minute and that's all. What can be done in 1 minute? Not a lot, do you agree? Well, there's a duo out there that wouldn't agree with that statement. Simon Haslam and Paul Barton are The Gash Doctors and one of the few people that can do a lot in just 60 seconds!
Professional cut man is a must in the world of mixed martial arts and the duo is one of the best in the business. They are confidently, quickly and quietly looking after their fighters making sure they get one more round. They are a vital part of WFC for quite some time now and they will be also present in Litija as WFC is making sure everything goes as planned and no fighter is in any danger whatsoever.
"During the fight we are watching the techniques employed by fighters to anticipate any injuries, cuts or swells. It could be leg kicks that need icing or a nose bleed that needs stopping. In the one minute rest between the rounds we will make sure that fighter is ready to go out for the next round."
But that is not all that they do. Their job starts even prior to the fight. "We wrap hands, access a fighters needs before a fight and examine any previous or troublesome lacerations," stated Simon.
Hand wrapping is essential for a fighter and every fighter is different when you wrap their hands. "Grapplers do not like their thumbs wrapped, strikers do. We work with the fighter to make sure any injuries are controlled, extra padding on knuckles, strengthening the wrist if necessary."
"Some fighters can be prone to nose bleeds. We can treat this with adrenaline before the fight to help this."
Our top priority is the fighter’s safety and welfare. WFC is making sure that its fighters get the best treatment possible. And The Gash Doctors are just that – the best of the best!
