Bojan Velickovic: 'Savov Is Good But Not Great'

Currently unbeaten in six fights, Bojan Velickovic hasn't yet set a foot wrong in his quest to the top of MMA. The 23-year old Serbian has been rewarded for his fine form with a WFC middleweight title bout in October. He's keen to put on a solid performance for the fans, and show his capabilities in all ranges.

"It's the biggest opportunity I've had to prove myself to a large European audience," said Bojan. "The WFC is the best MMA promotion in Europe, and fighting for the championship belt right away is great, although it's pressuring from another point of view. I know there’ll be a lot of people expecting me to win, but I won't underestimate my opponent and will give a good show.

"I'm sure the fans will be impressed by the amount of heart I bring to the ring. In my career, amateur and professional, I've been in wars and I've never backed down without giving it my best."

Opposing Velickovic will be current champion Svetlozar Savov, an 11-4 fighter with eight wins by submission. In spite of this, Bojan is unconcerned by his foe's ground skills.

"I have a lot of experience with good grappling teams, and I think Svetlozar is a good grappler, but not a great one. I believe that I can beat him, even on the ground. This year I spent four months with the American Top Team, and it's all led to this point. I haven't stopped training with top coaches for years. It's been a good recipe, so 'if it's not broken, don't fix it.'

"I have a real high quality grappling environment and I'm training with some of the best in Europe. I'll feel comfortable wherever the fight goes."

To date, all of Bojan's wins have come inside the distance, and the under-84kg battler is looking for more of the same on October 21st.

"I always look for the finish," admitted Velickovic. "Winning a fight in dominant fashion is a way for me to excel and secure a victory, whatever the judges may be thinking. As it's the first time I'll be showing my skills to the WFC fans, I want to show them all off, not only on the ground, but in the stand up as well."

To conclude, the exciting prospect had some final words to add.

"I would like to invite all the people reading this to come and cheer me on at the event, because I will give them a show worth remembering."
